Boise is the capital of Idaho. Boise was named after French-Canadian trappers who first explored the area after crossing the desert plains. Finding green trees at the site they named it bois?, meaning wooded. Boise has been given the nickname the City of Trees. The original Fort Boise was down the Boise River near the Snake River at the Oregon border. This fort was erected in the 1830s. Boise was incorporated as a city in 1864. The first capital of Idaho was Lewiston but Boise replaced it in 1865. Boise's population nearly 200,000 and downtown Boise is at an elevation of 2704 feet above sea level.
Boise is the headquarters for companies such as Micron Technology and Albertsons supermarket chain, and Hewlett Packard's printer division. Other major industries are also headquartered in Boise or have manufacturing facilities there. The Tech industry is becoming vital to Boise's economy. Boise is the home of Boise State University and the county seat of Ada County in the Treasure Valley.
Boise has grown a lot recently and is now comparable to other midsize cities including Grand Rapids, Des Moines, Tulsa, and Providence. Boise is a popular area to look for real estate amongst the green wooded pastures.
